NFL Betting: New York Jets In Trouble?

One of the surprise teams in the NFL last year, the New York Jets made it all the way to the NFL’s Final Four, losing to the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC title game.

With a new stadium in the Meadowlands, there will be pressure for the Jets to repeat the feat this year but trouble seems to be rearing its ugly head at the team’s OTA.

Pro Bowl DB Darrelle Revis took himself out of practice on Monday, reportedly to protest his current contract situation.

While Revis initially said he had hamstring and dizziness issues, ESPN says that it soon became apparent that that wasn’t the case.

“Sat out for a little bit just to let them know I can play or I can’t play,” Revis is quoted as saying in the ESPN report.


Although he still has three years left on his current deal, he is looking for more coin and, according to reports, the last offer the Jets made had no guaranteed money, which offended the cornerback.

As it stands, the Jets are the odds-on (along with the Pats) at +125 to take the AFC East, +600 to win the AFC Championship and +12oo to take the Super Bowl.

Two games in the NFL Conference Championship playoff to decide who will meet in this year’s Superbowl showdown in Florida. It has been an exciting with the favorites going through and also a Cinderella story plot for others. With four teams left to battle it out, who is your favorite to go into the last two?

Indianapolis Colts vs. New York Jets

The Colts blew away the Baltimore Ravens 20-3 last weekend in the Divisional Playoffs to get into this weekend showdown with the New York Jets. Guess who played a big part in getting the Colts here? Yeah, Four times NFL MVP award, Peyton Manning, his two touchdown throw in the 2nd Quarter pretty much wrapped up the game and he will be hoping to come up with the goods again this Sunday. The Colts have some solid wide receivers that can do the job but not game changers so as long as the defense to their job, Manning will have all the time in the world to get his game going.

The Jets are certainly in 7th heaven after they dispose the San Diego Chargers 17-14 last weekend. It is surprising to see the Jets there but if you watched how they played on the day, then they have definitely earned their spot to be here to challenge for the AFC title. They are a young team with no fear and any teams coming up against the Jets will feel their defense impact. The Jet have an effective way of playing as they will pounce on any interception opportunities and turnovers when defending. Their offense line is the key to their winning formula, both rookies running back Shonn Greene and quarterback Mark Sanchez, will deploy the running tactics to keep the mistakes to a minimum to win the game. Things are really looking good for the Jets, they are really playing with a strong mentality on the road and pressure is surely not on their side.

The Indianapolis Colts are favorites to make it to the Superbowl which they last appeared in 2007. One obstacle still lies ahead and that is the fearless New York Jets team. The Jets have embarked on an unique journey where not many people believe they would have come this far and that’s because of the two rookies, D’Brickashaw Ferguson and Damien Woody. Their play is the simple game and no wonder they are getting things right. However, if the simple play gets shut down by the Colts defense, then it is hard to see how M. Sanchez can throw as good as MVP QB Manning, as he can certainly find something up his sleeves when called upon. This is the first time the Jets will play for the AFC title since 1999, what a game it will be.

New Orleans Saints vs. Minnesota Vikings

One of the most anticipated match up this season as two of the best teams in the NFC will go up for the title of being champions of the NFC conference. These two teams are well balanced and well solid in the offense and defense. It can’t get any better than this, can it? Yes it can, this is also a matchup between Quarterbacks Drew Brees and Brett Favre. It certainly looks like whoever brings their A game on the field on Sunday will be the one walking off the pitch victorious. Both teams are all about their quarterback so it will be all down to who will throw better on the day.

The New Orleans Saints brushed away the Arizona Cardinals 45-14 last weekend and showed people they are a good running team and also throwing team. They have it all when it comes to their offensive play but what about their defense duties. Now there is an issue because they are playing the Minnesota Vikings not the Cardinals, I say this because the Saints might be able to defend against a team who can deploy different variation of play with a good success rate. There is a case where it would be safe if the Saints always have the ball rather than giving it to the Vikings and let them to their stuff. The ultimate weapon will be QB Drew Brees but watch out for offensive lineman, guards Jahri Evans and Carl Nicks.

The Vikings are a strong solid team throughout the ranks. They demonstrated their power when they taught the Dallas Cowboys how to play football by winning 34-3. They are on a hot streak of consecutive wins and they will go to New Orleans with high confidence. While all eyes are on Brett Favre, he will have lots of options to see him throwing a winner on Sunday. NFL's final four

t's down to four in the National Football League, with storylines aplenty.

There is a little something for everyone in this Sunday doubleheader.

You've got a meeting of powerhouses between the Vikings and Saints.

Minnesota was 12-4 on the season, having lost its final four games, while New Orleans, which flirted with perfection nearly all season, finished the campaign at 13-3.

In this matchup, it's hard to determine the sentimental favourite.

Neither team has won a Super Bowl. In fact, the Saints have never even played in the big game.

NFL: San Diego extends Norv Turner's contract

The San Diego Chargers gave coach Norv Turner a three-year contract extension through 2013 last night.

No financial details were announced for the deal that came one day after the Chargers were shocked, 17-14, by the New York Jets in the AFC divisional playoffs.

Turner's regular-season record with the Chargers is 32-16, but he is 3-3 in the playoffs. His overall record as an NFL head coach is 90-98-1.

Vikes' Edwards ailing. Minnesota coach Brad Childress declined to elaborate on the extent of an injury to Vikings defensive end Ray Edwards, who appeared to hurt his right knee in the third quarter Sunday's against Dallas. He returned for a few plays, then was done for the day.

Childress said Edwards is "a tough guy," and if he is able, he'll play against New Orleans this Sunday.

Main Favre gets better with age

I did not believe Favre would be the final piece in the Minnesota Vikings' jigsaw. I had no doubt the future Hall of Famer could still throw a pretty pass and lead a team with some devastating strikes downfield. I just could not see a 40-year-old quarterback - who had admitted he got tired throwing to college kids over the summer - being in peak physical condition at the business end of the season.

I did not particularly like the way the former Green Bay star engineered his release from the New York Jets before conveniently signing with the Vikings once most of the preseason training was out of the way, but that was not my primary concern. I just felt a guy who had physically broken down at the back end of the previous season was not going to be in the right kind of form to lead a Super Bowl run in January.

NFL Picks: For the Upcoming Week 14 NFL

If the mighty haven’t fallen yet, they’re teetering.

Perennial pre-season favourites Pittsburgh and New England aren’t at the centre of the playoff discussion with just four weeks of regular-season football remaining. It’s certainly not the type of claim — regarding these two organizations — we’re used to hearing at this time of year.

Much can change in a short period of time, but you can mark this one down: if the Steelers (at 6-6) don’t guzzle the Browns on Thursday, their season is done.

Tom Brady and his Patriots (7-5) have a little more rope, but not a full coil. New England’s advantage could be the schedule. In the final two weeks, the Patriots face Jacksonville and Houston, two teams they’ll likely need to beat out to land a wild-card slot if they can’t harness the AFC East title.

Pittsburgh (6-6) at Cleveland (1-11) (+9.5)

The Steelers surrendered 396 yards-combined to Oakland last week. Defensive co-ordinator Dick LeBeau is legendary at making the right adjustments and history tells us to ride his coattails and QB Ben Roethlisberger’s arm when the season’s on the line. Take the Steelers.

New Orleans (12-0) at Atlanta (6-6) (+10.5)

How bad does Drew Brees have it? He takes his air show onto the immaculate carpet and conditions at the Georgia Dome seven days after ripping up the turf in Washington with 419 yards. Can we at least hit 500 this week? Brees leads the NFL in passer rating (111.3) and TDs (29) and faces the fourth-worst pass defence in the league. Take the Saints.

Green Bay (8-4) at Chicago (5-7) (+3)

Wasn’t it Chicago that was supposed the have the dominating defence? The Packers are fourth against the run and fifth against the pass. Since the Bears can’t do either (watch the logic kick in here folks …), take the Packers.

St. Louis (1-11) at Tennessee (5-7) (-12.5)

According to Accuscore, a simulator that forecasts the probability of teams winning games, the Titans have a nine per cent chance of making the playoffs. Miraculous comebacks don’t come around often and that loss to Indy last week likely ended things for Tennessee. They’ll take it out on the Rams this weekend. Take the Titans.

Denver (8-4) at Indianapolis (12-0) (-7)

Nice bounce-back shown by the Broncos the past two weeks after dropping four in a row. Denver faces a Colts team that astounds, given the injuries. Indianapolis has Peyton, but they’ve also dug up a good running attack led by Joseph Addai (two TDs last week). Take the Colts.

Buffalo (4-8) at Kansas City (3-9) (+1)

How meaningful is this one? Well for one participant, not really. Terrell Owens signed with a modelling agency this week to go with his reality show and breakfast cereal. "When you’ve got some good looks like myself, you’ve got to take full advantage of it," the sometime focused Bills receiver said. There’s no catwalk in KC. Take the Chiefs.

Cincinnati (9-3) at Minnesota (10-2) (-6.5)

The Bengals have underwhelmed lately. The Vikings need a rebound game after losing convincingly to Arizona. Take the Vikings.

Carolina (5-7) at New England (7-5) (-13)

Pats have dropped three of four and might be reeling, but Carolina is one soft spot New England can land on. Take the Patriots.

NY Jets (6-6) at Tampa Bay (1-11) (+3)

Rookie QB Mark Sanchez (sprained knee) sits and Kellen Clemens takes his spot. Tough break for the Jets, who’ve won two straight but the offence has dried up. Expect to see a lot of RB Thomas Jones, which should be enough against the league’s second-worst run stop. Take the Jets.

Miami (6-6) at Jacksonville (7-5) (-3)
Huge win for the Jags last week against Houston; ditto for Miami against the Pats. The Jags’ schedule down the stretch (Indy, at New England) is a brute and any hope for a wild card rests with a must-win at home this week. Take the Jaguars.

Detroit (2-10) at Baltimore (6-6) (-13)

The Ravens move forward after a trio of tough games (Indianapolis, Pittsburgh and Green Bay). There’s no chance of a letdown Sunday with an opportunity to improve the playoff chances. RB Ray Rice is a great fantasy play. Take the Ravens.

Seattle (5-7) at Houston (5-7) (-6)

Rumblings have Houston coach Gary Kubiak in trouble and this is desperation time for a Texans team that should be playing better. Neither team has much of a run game, meaning Matt Schaub versus Matt Hasselbeck. Take Schaub; take the Texans. Read More!

With the half way mark of NFL season, NFL Week 11 Predictions are right around the corner. This time, sports punters will have fun over NFL Week 11 for their betting prospects.

Carolina 24, Miami 21:
These are two 4-5 teams that seem to play. Comparatively, Panthers are better but Dolphins have ability for big play and they can ameliorate their score.

Pittsburgh 31, Kansas City 17:
Against the Bengals, the Steelers played such a poor game and they will be looking to get back on their path. Despite a win of KC against Oakland, it was still only a win against them.

Detroit 20, Cleveland 13:
Week 11 bums are here.

New Orleans 31, Tampa Bay 10:
For last couple of weeks, Buccaneers have been so competitive but they have not played a defense any where as Saints did.

NY Giants 28, Atlanta 24:
For four straight losses, the bye week will have helped the Giants correct what ever led them. At home, the Falcons have been starring but have struggled on the road.

Jacksonville 24, Buffalo 14:
Statistically, the Bills are really near the bottom of the league. Though Jaguars do not have the best defense but still they can minimum score.

Dallas 31, Washington 17:
The Cowboys will get their offense back, after last week's offensive barbarity against the Packers. Washington has too many fixes for Dallas to feat.

Minnesota 27, Seattle 13:
Last week, on beating the Cardinals, the Seahawks saved their NFL season.

Green Bay 20, San Francisco 13:
The 49ers' defense flew on field by bringing mayhem, but their offense caused dejection. The Packers carry the edge in offensive capability.

Indianapolis 24, Baltimore 16:
The Colts contributed like any thing in their win against the Patriots. They can't go undefeated this season but they won't get their first loss at the hands of the Ravens.

Arizona 31, St. Louis 21:
The strength of Ram’s is their running game. Unfortunately, that is the one strong point on the Cardinals' defense.

New England 23, NY Jets 20:
The Patriots lost to the Colts just because of shocking coaching decision. To prove some thing to their coach, league and to them selves as well, the New England defense is going to come out. Due to Patriot’s ferocity, the Jets will not be ready.

Denver 21, San Diego 17:
Since Week Six, Broncos have lost three straight and the Chargers have won four in a row. A known opponent and an advantage of home field is the only thing in Denver’s favor in this week.

Cincinnati 35, Oakland 9:
The Bengals have been quite dominant and if they can hold off an offensive attack from the Steelers then they will have no problem with the hapless Raiders. Coming to Oakland, they really do not have any idea what's going on with their team.

Philadelphia 27, Chicago 16:
Through out the year, Bears did not beat any powerful team though they won in Week Two. I guess Jay Cutler is the secret weapon for the Eagles.

Tennessee 31, Houston 28:
The Titans have been performing and scoring well. Texans may come out plugging after a bye week but they can also come out flat. Read More!

Wash @ Car: Line opened at Panthers -4 and closed at 5 ½. Carolina won, but only by 3 points so the house got a little back on this game. Line was off by only 1 point and the books made money on this one. GRADE: A

Oak @ NYG: Like the game above, the public did not think the dog was attractive at the opening number. Here, NY opened 15 ½ and closed -16’. Giants beat the NFL’s worst - the LA Raiders - by a whopping 37 points. Line was off by 21 ½. GRADE: F-

Ind @ Ten: Another bad number here. Indy opened at -3, the books too scared to go off that key number. The public jumped all over the visiting Colts against the winless Titans, and Indy won 31-9. Number was off by 19, the public, as is their tendency, jumped all over the favorite in the only game on the board, and the house got hit again. GRADE: F

NYJ @ Mia: Best game of the week for the bookies and the house, and it couldn’t come soon enough. The odds makers opened NY at -1 and the sports betting public was still buying into the Ryan-led Jets D as near-invincible theory – the Jets closed at -3 with a price on it! Miami was in control the whole way, emerging with a 4 point win. The opening line was off by 5, but the house, who could ill afford to end the week with another loser, profited nicely. GRADE: B
