Sharapova comes into her match with Pervak sporting a 11-3 record this season, and she has captured two singles titles. The Nyagan native followed her early dismissal at Melbourne with a victory on the hard courts at Memphis. She also won her French Open tune up last week in Strasbourg, beating Kristina Barrois 7-5, 6-1 in the final.
Ksenia Pervak, who will turn 19 years old on Thursday, has never played in a Grand Slam event. Pervak has yet to turn pro, spending most of her time on the ITF circuit in Russia.
The left-handed playing Pervak did make a run at an Australian Open appearance in January but lost in the qualifying round of 32. The Chelyabinsk native is 16-11 in match play this season; her best WTP finish came on the clay courts at Prague earlier this month, where she lost to Alja Tomljanovic in the semi-finals 3-6, 6-2, 3-6.
